Vol. I 1540-1703; Vol. II 1703-99 Maps of Canada, The Arctic, Newfoundland, The River & Gulf of St. Lawrence; Vol. III 1703-99 Maps of Eastern Canada & Newfoundland, The Maritimes, Nova Scotia, Halifax, Prince Edward Island, Sable Island, Cape Breton, Louisbourg & the Great Lakes. Vol. IV 1703-99 Quebec City & Province, Siege of Quebec, Montreal, West Coast and Admiral De Fonte. When a map has no named cartographer, engraver, or date, it is often difficult to find an exact source for it. These books provide a factual resource to help, particularly the beginner, by providing illustrations and descriptive text on all maps relating to 18th century cartography of Canada. Some of these maps also relate to the cartography of the northern United States. Many of the maps described are quite rare so this book will also assist experts when faced with one of these uncommon items. Each map, and, occasionally, different versions are illustrated. As a result, most maps can be identified simply by comparing one's own map with the illustrations. However, full cartobibliographic information, including locations of the material examined, is provided. A full title index is provided as a short cut to identification.
