Title continues: "Including Poems on Local, Canadian and British Subjects, and Lines on the Great Poets of England, Ireland, Scotland and America, with a Glance at the Wars in Victoria's Reign." James McIntryre was an Ingersoll, Ontario poet widely renowned for his cheese poetry, as in "The Cheese Pioneer" (p. 70) and Oxford Cheese Maker's Song (p. 108). His main theme, however, was southwestern Ontario, with verse on such subjects as: "Disaster to Steamer Victoria at London" (p. 12), "Port Stanley" (p. 23), "London Flood" (p. 27), and the never- to-be-forgotten "Potato Bug Exterminator" on p. 82: "Now for a minute, lend your luggs,/ Our theme, it is potato bugs." An awesome addition to any Canadiana or Can Lit collection, especially for those with a twisted sense of humour. Note this copy was given to scientist Keewatin Dewdney by his parents, Irene and Selwyn Dewdney, pioneer Canadian art therapists.
