Pelczar was the Polish Bishop of Przemysl from 1900 until his death. With Ludwika Szczesna, he founded the Handmaids of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, an institution for the protection of poor girls. He was proclaimed a saint by John Paul II in 2003.
