LOWNDES, Thomas

Regular price $1,250.00 Sale

Thomas Lowndes (1767-1835), of Barrington Hall, was a wealthy London merchant. His essays or letters include much detail about his period's economics and politics. Those who dislike Napoleon will enjoy Lowndes' rant in which he compares Buonaparte to the Antichrist, and the author's comments on Scotch nationality, the new University of London, Lord Nelson, and the Prince Regent may also raise a smile. The Middlesex Hospital was founded in London in 1745 and did not close until 2005.
