SHAKESPEARE, William; BARTON, Alfred Thomas (trans).
Shakespeare's sonnets translated into Latin. Alfred Thomas Barton (1840 - 1912), a Fellow of Pembroke College, Cambridge, devoted many years to translating the complete sonnets of Shakespeare into Latin hexameters and elegiac couplets. Some might ask if all his effort wasn't a bit misplaced but Barton's translation work was clearly a labour of love. Advertising for a portrait of this remarkable man is tucked in rear.
