Also known as the Mausoleum of Hadrian, this historical structure was built on the right bank of the Tiber in AD 135-139. Initially built as a mausoleum for Roman Emperor Hadrian and his family, it was transformed into a fortress in the 5th century. Opera fans may recall that the Forte features prominently in Puccini's "Tosca." Decommissioned in 1901, the fortress became a museum.
