Photo of an 1880 painting entitled "Scene From Springbank Park" by Henry Nesbitt McEvoy (1828-1914). The view, looking south, shows London's waterworks pumphouse and dam, Northern Hotel, S.S. Victoria, and the gazebo on Chestnut Hill in the background. The waterworks were turned on for the first time in 1879. The Victoria, launched in April 1879, sank in the Thames on May 24, 1881, drowning about 200. John Cooper was in business as a photographer from 1857 - 1890. His business was located at 198 Dundas Street until 1875. He then moved to 440-442 Clarence Street. The note on the rear may mean this photo was taken December 1, 1880.
