The Novel about the Abortion Racket. The Canadian novelist Hugh Garner was raised in Toronto and attended Danforth Tech. His most famous novel, Cabbagetown, depicted life in the Toronto neighbourhood of the same name, then Canada's most famous slum, during the Depression. For this book he chose the pseudonym "Jarvis Warwick," reportedly after the seedy Warwick Hotel on Toronto's Jarvis Street.
