How It All Began is the personal testimony of Michael "Bommi" Baumann, a man who, in the late 1960s and early '70s, was a member of the June 2nd Movement, an "urban guerrilla" organization in West Berlin. While this book marked Baumann's turn away from political violence and disenchantment with illegal life, it remains an important document from the period.
