William Peterkin was born in Northumberland County in 1886 and died in Parkhill in 1939 after about 30 years as an agricultural implement dealer. The John Peterkin who signed this book is likely his younger brother, born 1866 in Northumberland and dying in Parkhill in 1887. Both brothers are buried in Parkhill Cemetery. John is likely the Lance Corporal John Peterkin, "C" School of Infantry, who was discharged from the army November 11, 1885 when suffering from pneumonia. He was recommended for a government pension or gratuity in June 1886, according to a document at Library & Archives Canada. He had served - or tried to serve - in the Northwest Rebellion.
