Major General Arthur Edward Potts (1890-1983) was a Canadian general officer active in both world wars. In July 1940 Potts was promoted to brigadier and took over the command of the 2nd Canadian Infantry Brigade. He led the brigade in Operation Gauntlet, the commando raid at Spitsbergen intended to deny Germany the coal, mining and shipping infrastructure, equipment and stores on the island. "Force 111" consisted of two battalions of the brigade. Afterwards Potts was transferred to the Pacific shores of British Columbia and in 1943 was appointed commander of Military District 2 in Toronto.
