During a brief visit to America Berkeley treated many conditions with tar water from asthma to rheumatism and dysentery, he came to endorse it as a cure all and began manufacturing it. This work details the medicinal virtues of tar-water followed by his thoughts on the philosophy of Plato. He became bishop of Cloyne in his native Ireland, and earned renown for his works in the philosphy of perception.
