FARRELL, J. G.
The Irish author's third novel is not well known, being overshadowed by his Empire Trilogy. In 1979, at the age of 44, Farrell drowned on the coast of Bantry Bay after falling into the sea from the rocks while angling. "Had he not sadly died so young," said Salman Rushdie in 2008, "there is no question that he would today be one of the really major novelists of the English language."
