Title continues: "Who upon Full Evidence were found Guilty of High Treason, At the Sessions-House in the Old-Baily, December the 17th 1678. And received Sentence accordingly." Ireland was a victim of the Popish Plot, arrested on the false testimony of Titus Oakes, and executed for treason along with John Grove. Ireland's stated he was not in London when the alleged plot took place, despite other evidence that he was. Charles II himself believed in Ireland's innocence.
