The July issue was the first appearance of this magazine, and it began, on page 1 with, The Haunted Hotel: A Mystery of Modern Venice, by Wilkie Collins. It continued with 28 chapters and a Postscript through each of the first six issues of the magazine, ending December 1878. This magazine appearance of Wilkie Collins' The Haunted Hotel precedes the British and Canadian first book editions. Beetz 69 (p. 18).
