Raised on family-owned Glenview Farm, Ian Raynor witnessed agricultural struggles that were eventually overcome through the propagation of "White Gold" or cotton. Later, international politics and internal war caused this this country, widely considered to be an "agrarian paradise" to catastrophically decline. The book's last chapters trace Zimbabwe's continued economic deterioration under President Robert Mugabe.
