Henrietta Knight, Lady Luxborough, separated from her husband due to a scandal, found plenty of time to take part in a literary society which included Shenstone as well as others. He preserved the letters she wrote between 1739 and 1756 and published them in this volume. The result is a charming portrayal of rural upper class life in this time period.
