TICKLE, Paul I. (pseud.)
Title continues: "Independence! How to prepare for it. Consolidation is preparation for a new nation. Confederation is Preparation for Annexation." Letters addressed to the "Leader" over the signature of "Paul I. Tickle" and published in that newspaper. Reprinted in this pamphlet form. Suggests how to consolidate the British North American province, gives advantages and disadvantages of Confederation, one of the latter being that "It is essentially Yankee ... with a view to annexation to the United States ... It has scarcely a British idea in it ... The British element would be lost in this mongrel scheme of monarchy and republicanism" (p. 8). Quotations by Lord Durham and Sir W F. Williams. TPL 4454.
