As a literary scholar Eugene Vinaver is best-known today for his edition of the works of Sir Thomas Malory. He founded the Arthurian Society in 1928, at Oxford, and in 1948 founded the International Arthurian Society. His interests were very wide, however, and by the time of his death in 1979 he was regarded as one of the most eminent scholars in the field of French literary studies.
