Photos of Ojibwa Fisherman

Photos from an estate collection, the deceased being the great-granddaughter of Northern Ontario missionaries. The snapshot is of an unnamed Ojibwa fisherman from Beausoleil First Nation, Christian Island. The studio portrait by Watson's is apparently of the same man in his later years. His countenance, along with his rolled cigarette, suggest a local "character." Watson's Camera Shop was opened on King Street, Midland by Lorne Watson in 1936. His son Budd Watson went on to become an influential Canadian photographer, specializing in wall-size prints of well-known images of Georgian Bay. Watson's Camera Shop eventually moved to a different location on King Street and changed ownership many times, in later years being owned by Hudson Leavens.
