The five-person book committee worked during the Nazi occupation of Norway in World War II to produce this architectural history. As the national Association of Architects was Nazi controlled, the compilers had no detailed instructions but Norwegian authorities in London asked them to go ahead with this work "and keep their mouths shut" (p. 5). The result is still an excellent overview of Norway's architecture, including prehistoric homes, the famous stave churches, castles, palaces, monumental buildings, and the "modern" architecture of the 1930s.
