Burham (1846-1912), an American architect and urban designer, was a proponent of the Beaux-Arts movement. Selected as Director of Works for the 1892–93 World's Columbian Exposition, colloquially referred to as "The White City," he had prominent roles in the creation of master plans for the development of Chicago, Manila, and downtown Washington, D.C.

    2 vols.: xviii, [2], 260; ix, 237 p. 29 cm. Colour frontispiece and numerous other plates, of which a few are in colour. Green cloth with gold impressing in tan dustjackets.Top edges gilt. Tan paper covered slipcase has dampstains on bottom, chips and tears to edges, some soiling. Dustjackets also have some soiling, small tears. A little bumping to book's lower corners. Faint stain to bottom of volume 2's rear board. News clipping inserted at rear of vol. 2 darkened last page of index and rear endpaper.
