QUAIFE, Milo M. (ed.)
John Askin (1739–1815) was an Irish fur trader, merchant, and colonial official. After his death, he left a huge amount of papers and correspondences, which were collected and published in these volumes. Although Askin never achieved any widespread renown, his interests and contacts were so varied and numerous that the two volumes illuminate almost every aspect of the history of what's now Michigan and southwestern Ontario in this period. An enormously valuable resource for any student of that region's history.
