Based in Winnipeg, Frederick W. Steele travelled extensively in Western Canada, taking photographs of scenery in the Rocky Mountains on behalf of the Canadian Pacific Railway. His company was known as Steele & Co. after 1892. Text of this book describes Winnipeg's geographical position, "very agreeable" climate, population, public buildings, manufacturing, street railway, Winnipeg Industrial Exhibition, etc. Photos of factories, banks, exhibition grounds, Assiniboine River, Old Fort Garry, Broadway, harvesters at C.P.R. depot en route to wheat fields (migrant workers), stock yards, Deaf and Dumb Institute, etc.
