The Craftsman. Volume 1: October 1901 - March 1902. Volume 2: April to September 1902

Founded by American furniture designer Gustav Stickley, The Craftsman magazine championed the American Arts and Crafts movement. A key figure in the early years was art historian and Syracuse University professor Irene Sargent who wrote nearly all of the magazine's first three issues herself, including the cover story on William Morris in the inaugural issue. Topics include: simplicity in household furnishings; John Ruskin's life and public service; the fireside industries of Kentucky; Robert Owen and factory reform; the modern craftsman and his livelihood; bookbinding; beautifying cities; Art Nouveau; etc.
