Sir Robert Stawell Ball FRS (1840 - 1913) was Royal Astronomer of Ireland at Dunsink Observatory. This work is mentioned in the "Ithaca" chapter of Ulysses. The London publishing firm of Bickers & Bush operated from 1846 to ca. 1863 when the partnership was dissolved. The firm continued under the name Bickers & Son, and was obviously binding books as well as publishing them. This gorgeous binding features Shrewsbury School, a public school founded by Edward VI in 1552.
