Clarence Coles Phillips (1880-1927) was an American artist associated with Life Magazine. This lovely collection of his prints contains both colour and black and white representations of female fashion and life in early 20th century. "R.S.V.P." is a plate many will recognize. The illustrations feature Phillips' trademark "fadeaway girl" where the figures fade into the background but leave a suggestion of a full-figured lady. When Life Magazine began to use colour on its covers in 1908, the Fadeaway Girl made her initial appearance and was an instant success.
