Originally published in 1759, this second edition, published a few months after Goldsmith's death, shows more extensive alterations than any other revision by Goldsmith. There are stylistic changes, rearrangements of material, omitted sentences and paragraphs (with the apparent intention of shortening the book) and the addition of a few transitional sentences (Friedman I 249).
