Eric Gill (1882-1940) was a Christian artist who, during the '20s and '30s, was a well-known figure in British art and intellectual circles. Gill moved in 1924 with his friend the poet David Jones to an Anglican monastery in Capel-y-finen, Wales where he wrote many essays on the subjects of Christianity and art. Interest in Gill's work continues quietly and steadily throughout the world, nowdays mainly from those who appreciate his contributions to fine lettering and book design.
