George Alfred Henty wrote 122 books over his lifetime and was best known for his historical adventure stories. His talent was discovered while writing home about his own experiences as a soldier in the Crimean War. Stanley L. Wood became known for his illustrations of boys' adventure stories and is especially noted for his scenes featuring horses (see frontispiece). 30 pages of Blackie & Son advertising at rear.
