Miege was a native of Lausanne who settled in London in 1661, became under-secretary to the Earl of Carlisle, and eventually became ambassador to Sweden, Russia, and Denmark. He wrote a number of miscellaneous works including two other French dictionaries, a French grammar, other philological works, gazetteers, etc. and translated a number of items.
