John Pearson (1610-1686), an English theologian from Great Snoring, wrote this collection of works orginally as lectures for the Church of St. Clement in Eastcheap, London. An important theological work for the Anglican historian.

Ink signature on front pastedown. Wormholes in front endpapers and into first pages. More holes towards centre and rear, always in bottom margin towards centre. Hole in p. 7 top. Faint ink notation on frontispiece page and p. 343. Well-thumbed. A few small spots only except for brown mark in margin of p. 320 and ink blot on p. 39, neither affecting text. Also some damp stains towards rear. Frontispiece and title page have red rules.
