Leather is deteriorating; spine ends chipped and corners worn. Labels on front pastedowns, ink stamps on front free endpapers. Vol. 4 has a few stains on front endpapers. Creased tissue guard next to vol. 6 frontispiece. Some thumbing inside. Beautiful birds, cute fuzzy mammals, reptiles, fishes, butterflies, etc. The author's text is often entertaining as well as scientific, such as his commentary on the Holothuridae's habit of disemboweling itself: "It seems a singular cure for indigestion, but no one can deny its efficacy" (vol. 6 p. 543).
