In mylar-covered dustjackets, vol. 1 being orange and vol. 2 being blue. Slight wear to jackets and a little soiling to lower edge of text blocks. Insides like new. Also known as "The Dream of the Red Chamber," this is the great 18th-century Chinese novel of manners that has become a classic all over the world. Vol. 1 depicts the "golden days" of the youthful hero Bao-yu while vol. 2 gives a detailed picture of the daily routines of a wealthy Chinese household, the ill-fated Jia family. The translation was completed in five volumes.
