BAXTER, Rev. Michael P.

Regular price $35.00 Sale

Enthusiastic prophesies about the upcoming Judgment Day by a well-known 19th-century foreteller of Armageddon. Baxter's predictions included Napoleon III becoming absolute head of a "Congress of Ten Nations", the "increasing degeneracy of nominal Christendom," a period of famine for about 18 months, war, pestilence, and "a seven-years' covenenant made between the Jews and the last universal king." Despite Baxter's assertions, Napoleon III would be overthrown within a few years of this publication. Nothing daunted, Baxter predicted the end of the world six more times up until 1908. On a more rational note, he was founder and proprietor of the "Christian Herald."
