Les Petits Emigres; Ou Correspondance de Quelques Enfans

DE GENLIS, [Stephanie]

Regular price $45.00 Sale

Stéphanie Félicité du Crest de Saint-Aubin, Comtesse de Genlis (1746-1830) was a liberal aristocrat and prolific author, de Genlis' novel is considered among the best of the genre of Èmigres novels, and is political in nature. It consists of an exchange of letters and discusses the "horrors being committed in France." The narrative explores the space between excessive democracy and narrowly aristocratic opinion. It is a clear response to the popular child novel of the time, written by a veteran of Old Regime novel writing. (The Family Romance of the French Revolution, by Lynn Hunt).
