Eden Versus Whistler The Baronet 7 The Butterfly A Valentine with a Verdict

Regular price $75.00 Sale

An entertaining and innovative record of the lawsuit of Eden vs. Whistler. Sir William Eden had paid a sum in advance for a portrait of his wife. When finished, Whistler exhibited the painting, but apparently felt that the sum was only a down payment and refused to sell it. Eden sued him. This interesting little work contains letters to the papers of the day, notices which appeared, and records of the court. All are set in a nice type font and an attractive style, complete throughout with Whistler's butterfly device. Led to the unprecedented establishment of an artist's right to his own work.
