Embellished with Accurate Views of the Principal Cities and the Costumes of Every Nation. Second title page reads: "Modern Geography, Comprising a Concise, Clear, and Entertaining Account of tll the Empires, Kingdoms, States, &c. in Europe, Asia, Africa, and America; With the new Discoveries to the Present Period. Embellished with Accurate Views of the Principles of the Nations, and Maps. Vol. I." This book is restricted to Asia and the Americas. While the book is stained with only partial maps and a few pages missing, there are many pictures and interesting descriptions showing attitutes in Britain of the time. "The Mexicans are naturally very grave, silent, and melancholy; but, like all uncivilized nations who come in contact with Europeans, they are addicted to the use of strong liquors: and when under the influence of intoxication become furious and ungovernable" (p. 123).

    322 p. 14 cm. Engraved frontispiece and title page vignette. 31 engravings, mainly of Asian subjects. Two maps, both of which were fold outs but which are now cut off. Asia map shows "New Holland" or Australia and the Americas map shows only the southern tip of South America. Half leather with paper boards. Corners worn, some holes in binding, much rubbing or scubbing. Front hinge a bit tender. Ink signatures and notes on front endpapers. Soiling and tears. Pages 129 to 144 missing. Stains pp. 145 to 176.
