Title continutes: "From the Commencement of the War with Spain in 1739, to the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748; Containing All the Transactions of that War both by Sea and Land: Also Comprehending a concise and impartial History of the Rebellion in Scotland." The period 1739-48 was a time of extensive warfare for Britain. This book begins with the War of Jenkins' Ear, named after a 1731 incident in which Spanish coast guards boarded a merchant ship and severed the ear of its captain, Robert Jenkins. After 1742, the war was subsumed by the wider War of the Austrian Succession, which involved most of the powers of Europe. Peace arrived with the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle in 1748. The book also includes details of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, which ended with the 1746 Battle of Culloden.
