William Rennie (1835-1910), agriculturist and seed merchant, was born in a log cabin and learned the rudiments of agriculture on the Scarborough farm of his parents. In 1870 he founded the Rennie Seed Company in Toronto, which became a major dealter in agricultural and horticultural seeds and supplies for over 90 years. He later took on the position of farm superintendent at the Ontario Agricultural College and Experimental Farm in Guelph. This book, published posthumously, promoted the values of farm life and beautification, and stressed the use of improved methods of scientific farming. Chapters include beautifying the country home, crop rotation, animal husbandry, drainage, etc.
