The Toronto Art Students' League, founded in 1886, was not only a school but a setting where members met to draw, discuss, comment on each other's work, and create projects together. The annual calendars they produced are milestones in the history of Canadian graphic arts. Each calendar had a different theme, which in 1895 was Canadian poetry. This issue includes verse by Archibald Lampman, Charles G. D. Roberts, Pauline Johnson, Bliss Carman, Charles Sangster, Duncan Campbell Scott, Charles Heavysege, and W. W. Campbell. The illustrators themselves are C. W. Jefferys, R. Holmes, J. M. F. Adams, R. Weir Crouch, and others.
