Charles Rollin (1661-1741) published his Ancient History between 1730-38. This 6-volume quarto edition predates the author's death by a year. While the history of these works cannot be taken at face value and would not hold up to contemporary historiographic standards, what they do offer is a profound example of early 18th-century French academic practices in the study of Ancient civilizations, revealing more about scholar-author Rollin and his perspective on both the Classical period and his methodologies in regards to the study of history.
