John Dryden (1631-1700) was an English critic, playwright and poet who completed and first published his translation of Virgil's complete works in 1697. This 5th edition from 1721 features 103 etchings by renowned engraver Paul Foudrinier (1698-1758), whose son, Henry, would, in 1806, patent a continuous papermaking machine immortalizing the family name with his Foundrinier machine.

Vol. 2: 337-706p. with 37 etchings. Vol 3. 707-1043p. with 32 etching (27th and 28th plates face each other and form a single battle scene). Spines worn with faded and partially missing labels. Boards securely attached with bumps and wear from use. . Ex. library with only marking the small labels affixed to the inside of the front boards on the pasted endpaper. Discolouration to endpapers. Pages clean and text clear.
