Peterborough County was part of the District of Colborne, founded in 1838, but which became the County of Peterborough in 1850. In 1862, the larger county was redivided into Haliburton County, Peterborough County, and Victoria County (now the City of Kawartha Lakes).This early history contains: a brief history of Canada and the Canadian people; the County and Town of Peterborough; townships of Peterborough; County of Haliburton; biographies of local men in each township.
