The Mayor of Garratt. A Comedy, in Two Acts; The Commissary. A Comedy, in Three Acts
Samuel Foote (1720-1777) was a British actor, playwright, and theatre owner best known for his comedies. These two plays debuted in 1763 and 1765 respectively and are representative of the later half of his work as a playwright. Foote struggled financially his entire career and only came to own his own theatre later in life, living to see it taken over by fellow dramatist, George Colman the Elder.
