Pothier also wrote treatises on other subjects such as duties, sales, rents, exchange, hiring, leases, etc. According to the Catholic Encyclopedia, Pothier was of "an austere life, modest, disinterested, and profoundly religious" and a "characteristic representative of the legal profession under the old regime."
