This is the literary work for which French historian Henault is best known. First published in 1744, the "Histoire" comprises the whole history of France from the earliest times to the death of Louis XIV. Probably based on notes taken during history lectures at the Jesuit college from which he graduated, his work was an enormous success, and was translated into several languages, including Chinese. His easy-going style made the history readable while the moral and political reflections he inserted were brief and agreeable according to the tastes of the time.
