Peter Newell distinguished himself as an artist during the Golden Age of Illustration, also depicting characters from the books of Mark Twain and Stephen Crane. His work is known for its infectious humour (see Old Father William opposite page 64), perfect to illuminate the world of "Alice." Introduction by Edward S. Martin.
