Julia Gordon (1810-1896) is known for her small, delicately-drawn scenes, full of romantic castles, lofty interiors, river scenes, flowers, etc. The Duchess in question is Eleanor Percy, wife of the 4th Duke of Northumberland. She lived in North Yorkshire at Stanwick Hall, a home demolished in 1925.
