Fredric Brown (1906 1972) was an American science fiction and mystery writer. His first book, The Fabulous Clipjoint, won the Edgar Award for outstanding first mystery novel. It began a series starring Ed and Ambrose Hunter, in which the young man, Ed, gradually progresses as a detective under the tutelage of his uncle, an exprivate eye now working for a carnival.
